Why Almost Everyone In Your Life Can’t Tell You How To Fix Problems
The simple answer is they don’t have enough information, but that doesn’t stop them from puking out opinions. When someone provides us a solution after hearing a few sentences they are not interested in helping us fix things. They are interested in making the conversation go away or are ignorant of the problem-solving process in the first place. They could be convinced of their greatness and consider their statements as pronouncements from on high that we should joyfully accept. It is hard to decide what is the worst part of all this. The fact they speak at all or the fact that we listen.
The minute you say a few sentences to describe a situation they are all over you. Do this, do that, try this, go there, get that. Do you really think you are helping people if after hearing a few sentences you jump to providing solutions? We’ve all done it and we all will do it, but what is important to remember is that unless we have clearly defined what is going on we may have not found or given others the right solution. If we don’t get to the real problem we will end up fixing symptoms. In time the real problem will rear its head again, but since we didn’t identify it in the beginning will see this as a new challenge to overcome versus one that was never solved in the first place.
