What Announcing Your Resignation Can Do To Teach You About Life, Yourself, & Others
I looked around after putting my fourth resignation in, in seven years, and realized I was already successful in achieving my career goals whether what came next worked out or not. I walked down the hall looking at people who had been sitting at jobs they hated for twenty years and were miserable. I looked at people who believed that company was all the world had to offer, or had convinced themselves that it was better to stay than go through the trouble of changing their lives.
About Life
I could not anticipate the freedom I would feel to tell my boss, and the slew of co-workers that would come after, how I was on the verge of achieving a seven year goal. How all the work and patience was paying off and we were moving to a new state and starting a new life. I could not anticipate how empowering it would be to explain our goals out loud to others. Doing so helped me to reaffirm our intentions and confirm that we were indeed on the right path.
The hours, days, weeks, and years we spent preparing was a good decision because taking that time fit our situation, but the time I spent worrying and overthinking about our future was precious time wasted that I will never get back.
