In the Netflix series, The Witcher, there is a scene where Geralt of Rivia storms in on Yennefer as she tries to absorb the power of a genie. Trying to absorb all that power is actually killing her. Geralt enters the scene and sees her battling with her lust for more. He asks her what she wants and she screams, “I want everything.” Chills went through my spine at that moment. I know what it feels like to want everything. Like Yennefer I am rarely happy and never settle. I too want it all and trying to get it all is often harmful to me.

My greatest quest in life is to understand everything. Everything is a big goal. I am limited by my feeble mind, responsibilities, and time. Everything takes me from my quest to know more. Had I been more enlightened as a child I would have been able to understand what was important to me and gotten myself into a career that would complement that. Meaning I should have went to college earlier, gotten my PhD, and spent my life steeped in books, research papers, and teaching. I didn’t do all that. Instead I became rebellious and my main goal in life became to get away from my parents and really “show” them. That led to me joining the Navy, making many poor decisions, completely forsaking college and career in lieu of getting pregnant and married at the age of…
