Maybe it’s Not the Right Time and You Don’t Have The Right People
Before you throw it all away consider that it may not be the right time and you aren’t surrounded by the right people. Maybe the mix isn’t right. I say this to myself after re-starting the same idea for the third time, but it has to be true. When we come back to the thing again and again maybe what has been missing is the timing of it all. Maybe we aren’t surrounded by the people who can make this happen or who can support us in the way we need it. The idea is good, but something in the mix isn’t right.
I spent six months doing research for a nonprofit I ran to determine if there was a way we could introduce earned income into our financial stream versus relying solely on donations. I loved the idea of diversifying our finances and finding a way to do that where the people we served could be a part of it. I went to our board of directors with my research and they approved opening a nonprofit thrift store.
Six months later we opened and though successful at first the store would later fall into hard times. Because the idea was bad? No because it wasn’t the right time and I didn’t have the right people in place to ensure the stores success.
There is a cool thing that happens when you start, stop, and restart. You get really good at starting things. So the next time you restart it…
