How To Train Your Mind To Process Purposefully & Maintain Focus

What if I told you that even in the midst of our current chaos we could train our minds to think about extraneous ideas? Without knowing it we often operate on autopilot. Waking up and letting things flow through our minds with no filter. We feed our brain with news bytes and gossip. We get information from co-workers and learn facts from hard data. Our mind wonders between what is in front of us, behind us, and ahead of us within seconds. We aren’t aware of what we are taking in and rarely take stock of what we are processing. We are processing things. If you do this purposefully you will be able to maintain focus on what is important to you and consistently be able to work on goals no matter where you are.

Start by creating depth. We have to have substance to think about. Something that has enough meat to get in and swim around a bit. Our typical conversations don’t contain much meat. I’ve texted with my daughter throughout the day about her recent move, but those types of thoughts can be processed quickly and dismissed. It doesn’t take me long to ruminate about things like that and that can become a problem. Fleeting thoughts give our minds a lot of room to be filled.
